Francis Coppola Diamond Collection 2012 Pinot Noir
Diamond Collection wines are classic California expressions that offer fruit-forward, multi-dimensional flavor and immediate drinkability. We pick our Monterey County Pinot Noir in the early morning hours and bring the fruit inside for immediate crush and 48-hours of cold soak. This technique helps intensify the color and elicit more profound aromas. During fermentation, the grapes are punched down four times a day to extract the maximum amount of flavor and just the right amount of tannin. The wine is then aged in small French oak barrels.

2012 was an excellent vintage across California because of steady, mild temperatures that persisted throughout summer. Monterey, which always has cool weather, experienced mainly cold nights and foggy mornings this year. Pinot Noir thrives if early morning fog is present but dissipates by mid morning. These weather conditions helped to produce fruit with delicate and complex aromas. In fact, the fruit was very aromatic at the crusher, delivering spice and floral notes. The sheer complexity of this vintage far exceeds the wine’s price point. The wine shows an ample and rich body with layered structure and the length is generous with a persistent finish.
